Home Insulation

Loft, cavity wall, and solid wall insulation reduce heat loss — lowering energy bills, improving comfort, and in many cases fully funded via ECO4 or GBIS for eligible households.

How Home Insulation installation works

  1. An energy assessor or installer surveys your property to identify which insulation measures are viable and cost-effective.

  2. Eligibility for ECO4 or GBIS funding is checked — qualifying households may receive works at no cost.

  3. Cavity wall insulation is injected via small drill holes; loft insulation is laid between and over joists — both typically in one day.

  4. Solid wall insulation (internal or external) is a more involved project; scaffolding may be required for external systems.

  5. A completion certificate is issued; an updated EPC may be recommended post-installation to reflect improved ratings.

Benefits of Home Insulation

  • Directly reduces heat loss — the single most cost-effective first step for most homes
  • May be fully funded for eligible households via ECO4 or the Great British Insulation Scheme
  • Improves your EPC rating, which may unlock further grants (e.g. BUS for a heat pump)
  • Reduces draughts and cold spots, improving comfort throughout the year
  • Lower heating bills from the moment installation is complete
  • Cavity wall and loft insulation are typically installed in a single day with minimal disruption

Typical cost

Loft insulation: typically £300–£700. Cavity wall: typically £500–£1,500. Solid wall (external): typically £8,000–£22,000. Many households pay nothing via ECO4/GBIS.

Costs vary significantly depending on property size, existing systems, and installer. A surveyor's assessment will give you an accurate figure. Available grants (listed below) can substantially reduce the net cost.

Ideal for

  • Homes with uninsulated or under-insulated lofts (pre-2000 properties)
  • Properties with unfilled cavity walls (typically built 1920–1990)
  • Households receiving means-tested benefits — likely eligible for free insulation
  • Any home with an EPC rating of D–G looking to reduce bills and carbon
